Daughter of William & Hannah Stewart Elson Sister of Turner Elson |
Isabel, daughter of William and Hannah Stewart Elson, was born in Brook County, Virginia, Aug. 5, 1812; died April 5, 1899.
She was the fifth of a family of seven children, only one brother, Turner Elson, of Trilla, Ill., surviving her.
When quite young she emigrated with her parents to Carroll County, Ohio, which was then a wilderness. In 1846 she came to Indiana, to keep house for her brother Hense Elson. She was married to James S, Webster, Sept. 14, 1848, and to them were born two children – Hannah Mary, wife of J.N,. Seybold, who survives her, and William Stewart, who died in 1858. Her husband departed this life Sept. 10, 1882, and she has patiently awaited the summons to meet that loved one where partings are no more.
More than seventy years ago she united with the M.E. church of Carrolton, O., and remained a faithful member until the Master called her home at the ripe old age of 87 years, 7 months, 28 days.
Hers was a life of hardships and toil, having seen this country grow from a wilderness to blossm (sic) as a rose. Hers was the home of the orphan and homeless, she having care of the children of four brothers and sisters. Like Paul, she could say, "I have fought the fight, I have kept the faith."
